Helene Dancer
Writer, journalist, filmmaker

I am a freelance writer, journalist, video producer and director who specialises in travel, arts and culture.

In my work, I've told the story of a Tunisian artist who's fighting extremists with graffiti, met a mother who lost two daughters to ISIS, travelled deep into Missouri to meet a man creating a new blueprint for civilization, and interviewed former South African president FW de Klerk about how to make the world a better place.

I also directed and produced a short documentary about a dancer who's bringing the vogue scene to Lebanon, a country where its queer community still faces extreme discrimination. CNN's Great Big Story licensed Vogue Beirut for its 2018 Pride programming, and the film was selected for the 2018 Fringe! Queer Film Festival, Shorts on Tap's 2019 Tales of the Silk Road Festival, and Shanghai's CINEMQ.

Apart from trying to master the art of vogueing, I've helped launch Lonely Planet's video platform, worked as a development producer at CNN Create, produced a segment for the BBC's The Travel Show, and written for the Guardian, Vice, Lonely Planet Traveller magazine and Mixmag.

I have also created award-winning editorial content for brands such as Audi, Land Rover, Mazda and Nike. This has included devising content strategies, pitching ideas, commissioning and writing targeted copy, launching and editing magazines and websites, and shooting, producing and directing video content.

I live in London but spent 12 years in South Africa, which I visit as often as I can.
